The Power of a Mother's Love

"Mother's Love"
As I continue to work on my current project of the- "About My Father's Business"-12 year old Jesus, I can't help but think about one of the newest pieces I've just introduced.

It's titled "Mother's Love", depicting the young mother Mary holding her first infant son. Mary's experience is not only humbling, but it is awe inspiring to see the complete trust and love that our Father in Heaven had in His daughter.

The story of Mary is one that has touched me deeply from the moment I held my own child. I have tried to imagine what it must have been like for Mary at the angel’s announcement. She must have asked herself a thousand times why God would trust His Son to her knowing she was so young and had never been a mother before.

It sounds almost unbelievable until one considers that this is exactly what the Lord does with each of us today. He takes a girl who has never been a mother, and places in her young and frightened hands the responsibility for His sons and daughters. Armed with little more than a mother’s love she sets out to teach and raise her children to the Lord. I have
asked the Lord in my own quiet moments of doubt why He trusts something so precious to me. Then I am reminded of the angel’s words to Mary, “Fear not, for with God nothing shall be impossible.” – Luke 1:30, 34.

It is comforting for me to know that my Heavenly Father hasn't left me alone to raise His precious children. Motherhood is a journey that we take with Him. He wants all of His children to be raised righteously so that every single one can return to Him. As a mother, I get to experience a glimpse of that desire. I want them to choose the right. I want them to experience life. I want them to be mine forever.

All women, whether they have children or not, experience that innate nature of motherhood. We can't help it. It surrounds us. My studio has women of all ages and experiences surrounding me with their love. From the elderly woman--who I'm sure has cared for hundreds of children--to the protective pioneer mother who holds her children fiercely, and then to the pictures of my own family. The warmth of a mother's love and care is something we can't help but want to surround ourselves with.

No matter if we are a child clutching to our mother's skirt or tenderly holding our own child, a mother's love is infinitely full.
